Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pick colors outside the browser window?+
Yes. This tool uses your system's built-in eyedropper, so you can click anywhere on your screen — including other applications, the taskbar, or your wallpaper — and it will return the exact color.
Why is the button disabled for me?+
The eyedropper requires the browser's EyeDropper API, supported by Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Safari 17.2+. Firefox and some older browsers don't support it yet — switch to Chrome, Edge, or a recent Safari to use this tool.
Is the color data sent anywhere?+
No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your picked colors are only stored in your browser's localStorage so your recent picks persist between visits — they are never transmitted.
What's the difference from Image Color Picker?+
Image Color Picker samples colors inside an uploaded picture. This screen picker grabs colors from your actual display without any upload — use it when you want to match a color you see anywhere on your screen.
How do I copy a color?+
After picking, the current color shows Hex, RGB, and HSL values, each with a one-click copy button. Your recent picks appear below as swatches you can click to recall.
